The African American Knowledge Bowl (AAKB) is held to increase awareness of African American History and its contributions to America and the African diaspora. The AAKB is intended to be fun, informative, and competitive for all players and spectators. The object of the game is for individuals to accurately answer as many questions as possible, thereby scoring as many points as possible. The winning teams from the first and second round will compete with each other in the third round for the grand prize.
This year’s AAKB is played like the game “Jeopardy!” You will be playing EPACARDY! created by the AAKB committee. The game resembles the televised version in that answers are presented on the game board and contestants respond with questions. There will be a total of three rounds. Each round is composed of six categories with five clues per category. Contestants will be provided with a study guide that details the eighteen categories (3 rounds x 6 categories each round = 18 total categories) and African American facts specific to each category. A team’s academic level determines the round in which they will play. Specifically, high school students will play in round one and college-level students will play in round two. The winning team from each round will compete with each other in the final round of EPACARDY!
